Reframing: A Photographer's Journey Through Japan
There are trips you take because something inside you needs to move. I really needed a change of scenery, the kind that shakes loose the familiar and hands you back your own eyes like they're new. So, I went to Japan.
I arrived in Tokyo on a Friday night in March, jet-lagged and wide awake, and I haven't stopped thinking about it since.
Your 2022 Branding Photoshoot
From the outside looking in, it can seem that all of a sudden there’s a beautiful set of photos, but, many don’t consider all that goes into these shoots. Sure, the photoshoot typically happens in a day, but it takes a lot of planning, questions, and preparation to do so. The entire project of ‘branding photos’ can sometimes take a month or more to pull off. As the photographer I don’t simply show up to great location and take photos, I work with you on the creative process and the logistics needed to pull it off.
With time, comes clarity.
Before I got into the thick of this business I don’t think I gave much thought to the long term relationships I would develop with many of my clients. Brands and businesses that have stuck with me since day one have grown alongside me. While my skills and tastes seem to shift & evolve, so do those of my clients, so much of the beauty lies in how we respond to one another.
Collaborating with creatives
It’s been a while since I’ve had butterflies heading into a photoshoot, but this one had me a flutter.
There’s something special that happens when so many people come together with the intention of being creative. I’ve never been in a band, but maybe it’s like that, a group of artists making music together. You control and set up the aspects you can, bring your talents and ideas, and then surrender and trust the rest to all of those involved.
